ART WITHOUT THE RULES

Michael J. Thomas is the artist behind Khaos Art Studios, based in the Texas Hill Country near New Braunfels.

His work doesn't begin with a formula or an attempt to fit neatly into a particular school of art. It often begins with an idea, an emotion, an image, or sometimes nothing more than color hitting a blank canvas. From there, the painting is allowed to evolve.

Faces emerge. Shapes collide. Images disappear beneath other images. Mistakes become part of the composition. What begins as one thing may become something entirely different.

That unpredictability is the point.

Michael's work moves between abstraction, expressionism, figurative imagery, surrealism and symbolism without feeling obligated to remain inside any one of them. His paintings are often colorful, sometimes strange, occasionally humorous, and at times unsettling.

Khaos Art Studios grew from the belief that art doesn't need permission to be beautiful, uncomfortable, funny, provocative, imperfect or difficult to categorize.

It just needs to make you feel something.

Michael creates original acrylic paintings, fine art prints, commissioned work and murals. His work is available to private collectors as well as interior designers, businesses, hospitality spaces and commercial projects.
